5th Sunday in Ordinary Time

With Sincere Appreciation

It seems fitting to dedicate the first part of this week’s editorial to an expression of gratitude.  Susi Thompson has been our Parish Secretary for some 17 years.  Later this month she will step down from this position.

The role of a Parish Secretary or Administrator (which seems to be the preferred title nowadays) is not an easy one.  It requires a considerable level of patience, perseverance, discretion and an awareness of the diversity and complexity of the parish in question.  Enfield is no exception.  Susi has, in my experience and that of my predecessors, brought many gifts to the role she has held for all these years.  She will be missed and she leaves with our love and thanks, and with my gratitude, in particular.  Thank you very much, Susi, and we all wish you the very best for the future.  You are in our prayers.

The new role of Parish Administrator will be advertised shortly and we hope to make an appointment in the coming weeks.  Please keep all of this in your prayers.

The late Easter means that Lent is a late starter this year.  I am eager that we use this time well and make plans for a good and holy Lent.  We will also be having a weekend of teaching on the Eucharist—‘A Weekend in the Cenacle’ led by my good friend Fr Darren Maslen SSS (of the Blessed Sacrament Fathers).  This will run on the weekend of 21-23 March and will take place in the Parish Centre.  I do hope  that it will be a time of renewal and refreshment as we consider the gift of the Holy Eucharist.  I will leave the rest to Fr Darren.

Finally, I am pleased that folk have responded to my appeal to offer musical gifts to enhance and support our worship. I would like to meet with all who are either involved in our music, or who would like to be, on Saturday 15th February at 4 pm in the Parish Centre. We have only one Mass without music each weekend (the 8am) so this means that 6 Sunday Masses require musical input and this takes careful planning and asks a great deal of us. It is right that we take this seriously.

With all good wishes and prayers,
