Mary Conceived without stain of Original Sin

“My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me”  Luke  1: 46-49

‘For he who is mighty has done great things for me’.  These words carry a lot of weight to them, because God has done great things with the Mother of his Son,  The Immaculate Conception.

The feast of the Immaculate Conception this year will be on Monday 9th December, because Sunday is the Feast of the Lord, which we are invited to every week.  God became flesh and dwelt among us, but on the feast of the Immaculate Conception we don’t highlight that fact, that event will be for the feast of the Nativity on 25th December, although it is always present.  Rather we highlight that Mary through the merits of her Son was preserved from Original Sin.

Because Mary will believe unlike Eve, she is preserved.  This is fitting because she was freely accepting God’s will, to be given the tools for her to say yes.

This vocation, was for her.  We have a calling in life, a vocation and that is to trust God, that he will give us the necessary graces to bring Jesus Christ to this broken world, and to echo those same words of Our Lady too.  Amen.

God bless.  Fr Axcel

Novena to the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary

A novena is a powerful devotion of prayer, said over nine consecutive days, asking God and the saints for special graces. We begin saying this novena prayer in preparation for the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

Please pray the novena with the parish and at home. May these prayers bring us many graces, especially as we begin the holy season of Advent. We will pray for a number of special intentions and you could also decide upon your own personal intentions for the novena.

Father, you prepared the Virgin Mary
to be the worthy Mother of your Son.
You made it possible for her
to share beforehand in the salvation of your Son, Jesus Christ, who would bring life by His death, and kept her without sin
from the first moment of her conception.
Give us the grace by her prayers
ever to live in your presence without sin.
We ask this through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
