Jesus refers to himself as \u2018Son of Man\u2019 88 times in the New Testament.<\/p>\n

1. \u2018Son of Man\u2019 was a prophetic title for the Messiah in the prophecy of Daniel: \u2018there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven\u2019 (Dan 7:13-14). Jesus identifies himself with that prophecy. Likewise he called himself the \u2018cornerstone\u2019, identifying himself with Isaiah 28:16 and Zechariah 10:4, and on the Cross he identified himself as the eternal heir to King David by quoting Psalm 22: \u2018My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?\u2019<\/p>\n

2. By calling himself \u2018Son of Man\u2019 Jesus states clearly that he is truly a human being as well as truly God. God calls the prophet Ezekiel \u2018Son of Man\u2019 93 times, and elsewhere it is used poetically to mean simply \u2018man\u2019 (Numbers 23:19, Isaiah 56:2, Psalm 79:18). So when Caiaphas asks Jesus if he is Son of God, Jesus replies that he is the Son of Man who\u00a0 will be seen sitting at the right hand of God (Matthew 26:63-64). He is God and man.<\/p>\n
