The Ascension of the Lord & Pentecost
As we celebrated the great feast of the Ascension last Thursday, we remembered Jesus returning to the Father while entrusting His mission to His disciples. Before ascending into heaven, Christ promised the gift of the Holy Spirit, reminding us that we are never alone in our journey of faith. The Ascension calls each of us to keep our hearts fixed on heaven while courageously living the Gospel here on earth.
During this special period of Easter after the Ascension, let us keep our Confirmation candidates in our prayers. As they have received, this weekend, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, may they grow in faith, wisdom, courage and love for Christ and His Church. May the Holy Spirit guide them to become joyful witnesses of the Gospel in their families, schools and communities.
Before the feast of Pentecost, we will have the Original Novena of all novenas. The Novena asking for the gift of the Holy Spirit over the nine days.
We invite everyone to join in praying the Pentecost Novena, beginning nine days before Pentecost Sunday. This beautiful tradition help us prepare our hearts for a renewed outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost Novena Prayer:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit, and they shall be created, and You shall renew the face of the earth.
Let us pray: O God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be truly wise and evermore rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
