Pentecost Sunday

Categories:

The Coming of the Holy Spirit

This Sunday, Pentecost, marks the end of the Easter Season. The fifty days of celebration and rejoicing have been  filled with prayerful thanksgiving. We give praise and thanks to God for the Resurrection of Christ, who is himself our life and our resurrection.

Today we thank God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete, the third person of the Trinity.  May the Spirit dwell within us and lead us in the ways of truth, justice and mercy.

This week some building works begin at Our Lady & St George.  The area at the foot of the stairs to the organ gallery (properly called the Narthex) will house two new toilets (one of which will be appropriate for use by those who are disabled).  Part of the costs of these works is being met by a grant from the National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ scheme.  We were delighted to receive this grant of £20,000 towards this project.  It is good to know that the Lottery is still helping to fund community projects.

This work is necessary because, in time, the Parish Centre will be demolished and a new Parish Centre built.  During those works the toilets in the Centre will be out of use/demolished.

The work on the toilets in the narthex will take about one month.  Please be patient whilst the works take place.  Mass times will not be affected. There will be some necessary drainage work outside which will affect the garden, and for that we are sorry.

Meanwhile, the scheme for the redecoration of the sanctuary area is progressing and we hope to show some designs to parishioners over the next few weeks.  All of these works are necessary and long overdue.

With greetings at Pentecost,
