Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

July is the Month of the Most Precious Blood

‘Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me’

Dear Friends,

I wrote last weekend about the heatwave conditions being in abeyance.  Now, it seems, we are entering another one.  I hope you are managing to keep cool as you read this.

I have just been looking through this week’s newsletter and realise that the lighter summer schedule has not yet had an impact on the life of the parish. There is plenty on here at present.

Those who are new to the Catholic Faith, or who are considering joining us having been members of other Christian denominations, might like to see the notice about the forthcoming RCIA course.  This is open to all, but especially to people who feel the call of faith and want to be part of the Catholic Church.  We also have the three sessions entitled ‘Living the Faith’, over the next month.  The first session, which I will lead, will address the ways in which the Lord intervenes in our lives through the grace of Holy Scripture.  Please come along, and bring a Bible, if you have one.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to learn from him, for he is gentle and lowly in heart.   This reminds us that our Faith is one of the head as well as the heart and soul.  When we learn more about what and why we believe we are blessed and we truly grow and mature in our discipleship.  I remember from my childhood that my Dad (an Anglican Vicar) ran a course called ‘Beginners’.  Many of those who attended had been churchgoers for all of their lives.  The point being that we never reach saturation point on this side of heaven.  There is always more to learn. This includes the clergy as well as you!
